Artist's Statement

"In my early drawings I used drapery and grids to express a classical surrealism. During the past twenty years my work has evolved into a structural or architectural style. x

In 1980 the subject matter of my work became a reflection of the industrial area in San Francisco where I have lived for twenty-five years. I have moved toward a more naturalistic painting style based on the concepts of the compositions I developed in my drawings. These paitnings are my interpretations of various surface textures: rust, wood grain and peeling paint.

In the mid eighty's I began exploring my figurative work. I painted friends and family in their everyday environment and developed a more personal style. Some of my most recent paintings deal with my mother's illness. the paintings are very strong and meaningful to me. they explore and convey feelings of isolation and loneliness through the use of value, color and light.

My goal is to continue exploring and developing my figurative style with emotion and feeling. I want to express a humanism through the use of the pictorial language."
