"I love his use of paint, his textured figures, his use of space and even (sometimes) his angst. Of course, I admire his talent and his dark vision because in some ways, that’s how I view life. I’m not the trickster or the drinker that he was and I am appalled by the way he treated people but his works speak to me on a level that transcends criticism.
