Landscapes have always been a part of my oeuvre and when I
lived in upstate New York, I painted pastoral scenes. But after
moving to San Francisco in 1987, my work began to shift. I started
to see the city as a natural organic system and "inanimate"
objects came alive to me. In addition, my long-time interests
in symbolism and color were easier to integrate with cityscapes
than with more "natural" scenes.
I'm attracted to particular spots in San Francisco when their
color and shapes emphasize the spirit that I see in the place.
I frequently paint the Sunset district where I live and lately
I've been interested in the way things look at night.
